I am a wanderer. I am always looking for new ways to achieve beauty. But when a road, inevitably, once again dead-ends in the woods, I always return to what I consider the essence of ceramics, the bowl. It is a return to base, but not a static base. It is a dynamic return to a base deepened by understanding. It is a hermeneutic process. I have now, in this return, brought with me a fascination for Oribe. Black Oribe, and Narumi Oribe. These Chawan are an interpretation, a bridge between then and now, a bridge between east and west. Wanderers love bridges.
